"World's Best Fishing Gear - World's Best Service"
Our friend Alain Pany shows off this wonderful picture of a great Swedish pike caught with his Loomis rod and Shimano Curado 201. Thanks, Alain!
Dixie and I have been blessed with 3 wonderful daughters. Now all married to great guys, they have 7 children between them. Our favorite 7 grandkids if you will. Kristy is now almost 43, Jennifer is facing the big 4-0, and baby Shannon will soon be 39. Just seems like yesterday they were living at home, going to school, and generally just being kids in the middle of the Midwest. I'm convinced their good behavior and generally agreeable demeanor is a result of Dixie's discipline rather than mine. After all, they were daddy's little girls. I was always there for the hugs and kisses, not the daily discipline. Not my job. My job was that of occasionally coming up with some small piece of wisdom that would make life easier, or perhaps more understandable. I was forced to recall one of these "tidbits" myself just this week. I am not a big Christmas shopping person. It just seems too counter-productive to me, all the rushing around, traffic jams, long checkout lines, surly clerks, and all of the other inconveniences. But, occasionally I am forced to venture out into the wilds of this annual shopping frenzy. And so it was this week. I needed to buy office supplies. My mistake was doing this in the evening after I left the store, which must have signaled every person in our city to join me. Finally getting through bumper-to-bumper traffic I went in the office supply store, got my supplies, and found a checkout lane with no one in front of me. That's when things got "frustrating". My checkout gal just didn't want to be there. She rolled her eyes, sighed, and with all of the energy she could muster began the tedious process of taking my money. I was a little upset and ready to donate a fairly large piece of my mind to this young lady when I remembered one of the "tidbits" I had given our kids years ago. As the kids grew up they, on occasion, would complain about one of their friends or make fun of something someone did. As they got older these complaints or judgments became more troubling to me, although they didn't seem to see any harm. So it was after enduring one longer than normal session of complaints and criticisms that I decided I needed to share some "Daddy" wisdom with the girls. I told them that no other person has the same values or life experiences as each of them do. Even 3 sisters do not agree with each other 100% of the time. These differences are due to one person's point of view or values being different from the others. It's not a question of who is right, but more about respect for different views and tolerance of those who you do not agree with.
Now this was pretty deep philosophical stuff for budding teenagers, but they listed to me and seemed willing to at least think about this idea I had proffered. I can't remember if it actually resolved the issue at the time, but I can assure you from that point forward they were reminded of being tolerant whenever I saw the need. So here I am in at this checkout line disgusted by a barley-more-than-a-teenager's attitude. And then suddenly I remember the tidbit I gave our girls. Before we criticize, before we judge, before we condemn just consider that everyone has different values. Everyone has different life experiences. Everyone has different ideas of what is right and wrong. Not everyone (probably no one) thinks exactly like we do. Put yourself in the other person's shoes. Maybe this gal was tired. Or not feeling well. Or had just had a rude customer. Or who knows what. So I said nothing and departed after offering a big, sympathetic smile. No, it probably won't make them change. Not right then. But, it will sure make this Christmas Season one of the best you've ever had. We're kicking off American Legacy Fishing's Christmas Season with a wonderful offer.
